The highly popular and widely prevalent through the length and breadth of India, the venrated text of the Srivisnusahasranama is one of the marvellous creations of Maharsi Vyasa. And further more, the erudite commentary upon it by the great Sankaracarya has added additional charm and literary, philosophical and religious value combined with highly exalted spiritual import to this short treatise.

The authors, prior to rendering the text as well as the commentary upon it by Sankara, have tried to assess, though briefly but honestly, the advent and development of the element of Bhakti beginning with the Rgveda down to the medieval period. The authous have, to the best of their capabilities, tried to remain honest, lucid and faithful to the literal translation of the bhasya. This book contains the original Sanskrit text in Devanagari with Sankara's Bhasya followed by its English translation.
