About the book
This selection of laboratory experiments in general and inorganic chemistry is intended for students preparing themselves for specialities other than chemical. The book is the result of many years of experience the authors acquired in teaching chemistry at the Moscow Institute for Steel and Alloys.
The textbook covers material in all fields of general chemistry and deals with all groups of chemical elements in the periodic table. The experiments are described and interpreted from the point of view of the modern theory of the structure of substances and chemical thermodynamics.
There is no theoretical discussion in this textbook, but the experimental part of each chapter is preceded by questions and problems for independent study before the student proceeds to practical work in the laboratory. A given property or a phenomenon is often demonstrated by several experiments with different substances, and therefore the instructor can choose experiments to meet the special requirements of the curriculum.
