The commentaries and glosses there-upon written by great Acaryas-Sankara, Ramanuja, Madhva and the succeeding exponents of the respective schools of Vedanta, have been referred to in the contexts of their relevance and necessity. The study of this Upanisad runs in a dialectical style rather than expository.
This work runs into four sections. The first section under the title "Triple Canon of Vedanta", elaborates the primary sources to the Upanisads, the place and importance of the Kathaka Upanisad. In the web of this title, the relation of the Kathopanisad with the Vedas, the other Upanisads, the Bhagavadgita and the Brahmasutras is woven. The synchronisation of the principles of Advaita and Dvaita schools with Upanisadic doctrines is shown here. For this purpose the principles of both the schools of Vedanta are delineated in the second chapter. A critical analysis of the Kathaka Upanisad forming the third section imbibes analytical exposition of the important doctrines of the Upanisad. The forth section offers conclusion. At the end, it is adjudicated that realistic interpretation of the Dvaita exponents is more appropriate and faithful to the Upanisad.
A bibliography is added for the benefit of the readers.
